From Fritz:
Hi! I'm the good-looking Cairn Terrier. As my human Mom and Dad would say, I was their special boy. I spent all my life making them happy.

One day I got real sick. My special friends in Omaha, Dr. Douglas Mitchell, a graduate of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Animal Emergency Clinic in Omaha tried to make me feel better but couldn't. That's when we took a trip to Ames, Iowa, to the Veterinary Medical Center. We arrived on Sunday and were met by Dr. JoAnn Morrison and her staff. Dr. Morrison examined me and recommended that I stay in the hospital for tests.

   Fritz

I was scared to be in a strange place but the staff and students at the hospital made me very comfortable and loved through the night. Unfortunately, whatever was destroying my blood cells continued and eventually I could no longer fight off this terrible disease.

From Fritz's family:
We wish to thank Dr. Morrison and her staff for the great care Fritz received. He was treated with great respect and compassion during his entire stay. The doctors and staff were outstanding in keeping us informed of his illness and prognosis. Dr. Morrison's kindness and love of animals was evident when she was caring for him. Even though we miss Fritz very much, we know that he received the best care in the country. We'd like to share the following poem with you, as it reflects the bond we shared:

"This friend was one of our family,
A most important part of our lives.
He is sadly missed, but we are so much better
For his having shared his life with us.
We can think of nothing, and perhaps
No one that has better taught us
To give and received love openly,
Unselfishly and unashamedly,
As this one small furry friend."
