Molly didn't walk well. She cringed when petted or whimpered when we picked her up. After multiple visits to our vet, blood tests, and x-rays, she went into convulsions and we were referred to Ames. Molly was diagnosed with a brain tumor encompassing approximately one-third of her head.

Dr. Klein performed the surgery at Iowa State. Molly crashed from the anesthesia and had to be transfused which delayed the surgery. After a good five hours, Dr. Klein reported that Molly was in recovery, but the next 24 hours would be critical. She was given a 1 in 3 chance of survival from surgery depending on the type of tumor. When the report came back, we were all jumping and shouting for joy.

About one week after being home, Molly crashed on us. We had a very scary night at our vet's where he held out absolutely no hope for her. We spent the next year helping Molly regain her health and weaning her off all her medications. Eleven months later, we were devastated to find that the tumor had recurred. The tumor was too large to radiate; it first had to be surgically removed. Molly sailed through her surgery and was ready to come home in three days with no radiation recommended.

It has been exactly one year since her second surgery, and Molly is happy, healthy, and the joy of our lives. I stop in amazement just to watch her play with a toy, run down the hall, or jump up onto a chair. She is a walking miracle and we cherish every day we have with her. If it hadn't been for the medical expertise of Dr. Schreiner and Dr. Klein along with the excellent care and devotion they administered, we would not have Molly today.

We feel supporting the Companion Animal Fund is an excellent way to show how much it meant to us to have Molly at your fine institution. The compassion and love shown to the animals and their owners is more than words can describe. We are grateful for all that was done for Molly and know that others will experience the same treatment.
