Defaultimage

I wanted to take a moment to thank Dr. Nieves, Christine, and the entire staff of the Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Section for the wonderful care you all gave to my dachshund, Schultze, when he was in for his back surgery. Schultze
Everyone there was so involved in his recovery and I though it was great that Christine and Shauna shared my excitement when he finally went potty so he could come home!
I called the hospital on Friday, June 27th because Schultze seemed a little "off" and I was concerned. Dr. Kline returned my call almost immediately and eased my fears by letting me know that I could bring Schultze up to the hospital to be examined. She let me know that there were a couple of factors that could be causing him problems, and she made me aware that he may have "off" days. Since I chose to keep him home and keep a close eye on him, she asked that I call her back that afternoon to follow up. It means so much to know that the hospital is there to ease my concerns, even after Schultze has returned home!
Schultze To give an update on Schultze's quality of life since his surgery, I have to say it's amazing! When I brought him home from Iowa State, he could barely walk or get around at all. I knew everyone at Iowa State said his surgery and recovery were successful, but seeing him move around like a slug had me scared! But in time he became more mobile, and I realized how right you all were about his success! Now he has no walking or moving impairments at all and gets around as if he never had any problems! He is so full of life!
Pets are such an important part of our lives, and it is so nice to know that the doctors and students at Iowa State can appreciate how these little creatures can fill a big part of our hearts! Schultze is just so funny he makes me laugh, and there are no words that I can say to thank you for allowing me to keep that joy in my life! What I can do is donate to the foundation you have setup at the teaching hospital. My friend Chris and I have a commercial development business. Because of the love for our pets, we gave the business the legal name Spoiled Puppy Properties, LLC. When Schultze made it through his surgery and was in your care recovering, Chris and I quickly decided that the ISU Veterinary Medical Center would be the recipient of our business' charitable donations.
Schultze If it weren't for all of you and the care that you gave Schultze, something would be missing from Spoiled Puppy Properties. I truly believe that the ISU Veterinary Medical Center is one of,
if not the best in the nation! You truly believe in what you do, and it shows. Keep up the excellent work!
Gina, Des Moines, IA
In honor of her dog Schultze.

Schultze was cared for by Dr. Mary Ann Nieves, student Christine Pallatrino, and the rest of the Small Animal Surgery staff at the ISU VTH.

A big thank you also to Schultze's veterinarians in Des Moines, Dr. Marv Johnson and Dr. Linda Stroh of The Veterinary Medical Group of Des Moines for their quick diagnosis and referrral of Schultze for back surgery in 2003.
