Admission

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is excited to begin enrolling students in the non-thesis program beginning Fall 2013. 

Prerequisites for consideration:

  • Strong biological sciences background; applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in a biological sciences-related field
    • We strongly recommend applicants take an undergraduate physiology course (BMS 329, BIOL 306, BIOL 335, or equivalent) and an undergraduate biochemistry course (BBMB 420, BBMB 301, BBMB 316, or equivalent).
    • Strongest applicants have completed courses in biology/zoology, chemistry, genetics, etc.

Favorable considerations given to applicants with experience in academia/industry/government and those enrolled in pre-professional undergraduate programs including pre-medical, pre-dental, and pre-veterinary medicine.

  • To ensure complete consideration, apply by May 1

  • Decisions will be made on a rolling basis with notification in the event of a wait-list by July 31, 2013

Graduate College Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (A = 4.0)
  • For international students, satisfactory TOEFL score (550 paper-based; 197 computer-based;79 internet-based)
  • In addition, BMS requires applicants to submit GRE (Aptitude Test) scores.  Other test scores, e.g., those for MCAT & DAT can substitute for GRE.

As a graduate degree-granting program, we are subject to the rules and requirements of ISU's Graduate College. Thus, admission into our program is contingent upon acceptance by the Graduate College. On occasion, applicants who do not meet the stated requirements have merited special consideration due to unusual individual circumstances.  Students who do not meet the minimum GPA standards may be admitted after favorable evaluation of their situation by the admissions committee, and subsequent approval by the ISU Graduate College.  An applicant does not request special consideration; this is determined by the admissions committee.  If an applicant is accepted with a GPA below 3.0, he/she is enrolled on “Academic Probation” status and has one semester to remediate his/her GPA to regain good standing.

 

Tuition and fees:

            Resident: $8,788 per year + lab fees
            Nonresident: $20,788 per year + lab fees

*No scholarship is available for this program.
