On behalf of the members of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine (VMPM), let me welcome you to our website. In its pages you will discover that VMPM's faculty, staff, and students share a keen interest in infectious disease of animals. We are pleased you have chosen to visit this site since it provides us the chance to showcase the contributions made by our highly dedicated and talented team of researchers and teachers. For those of you interested in pursuing careers in infectious disease of animals, we would love to speak with you about research opportunities for undergraduate, professional, and graduate students available through our department. With the intensification of animal-rearing practices, increase in antibiotic resistance among bacterial pathogens, ongoing emergence of zoonotic diseases, looming threat of bioterrorism, and heightened concern over animal-derived foods, we believe that well-prepared individuals can have exciting careers in which they make major contributions to both animal and public health. Whether you are interested in such careers or are just seeking to learn more about VMPM, let us hear from you. Best wishes and welcome again! Lisa
